Swedish minimalism
“Who are you to have your own brand?” Asked a journalist when BYREDO creator Ben Gorham first presented his brand to the press in 2006. A decade later, the Swedish perfume house has become one of the most recognizable names in luxury perfumery, with great classics such as Blanche, Bal D’Afrique and Gypsy Water.
The secret? Minimalism across the board. By forcing the noses to only use a limited amount of ingredients, BYREDO perfumes have a greatly transparent and understandable feel to them. Ben Gorham became intrigued by scent and memory after travelling to his mother’s hometown in India, where he was stirred by the aromas of spices and incense. Inspired by this trip, BYREDO’s scented candles and perfumes have been developed with an understated approach, using simple composition with high quality raw materials. The main nose behind the BYREDO fragrances is the very talented Jerome Epinette, who has also worked for Atelier Cologne, Jovoy and Frapin.
In more recent years, BYREDO has expanded both artistically and in scope. While being on the forefront of innovation through cooperation with artists such as Inez & Vinoodh (for 1996), the brand is now also available in body care products, hair perfume and interior scents.
